How to get rid of drain flies in your house with a chemical-free fruit fly trap? 1st let’s discuss about the most common natural home solution: apple cider vinegar and dish soap to kill fruit flies. There is a big issue with these solutions: they don’t work very well. In addition your room will smell very bad!

Urban legend that doesn’t work very often: Create a Trap Using Stale Wine! Have any stale wine left over that you aren’t going to drink? Put it to good use by converting it into a homemade gnat trap. It’s very similar to the apple cider vinegar trap. First, pour some wine into a container then place the container next to the problem area. The goal of this remedy is to use the scent of the wine to attract the fruit flies into the container. The flies will immediately drown once they make contact with the liquid surface. Adding some dish soap will also help with this trap. You can also use a wine bottle as a container. Beer and any other type of beverages that rely on fermentation will work just as well. You may have greater success with beverages that have more of a fruity aromatic scent.

But the issue is that, very often, this method doesn’t work, fruit flies will appear again and you will also have a problem with the bad odor from this “natural” solution. Vinegar is a very potent and powerful liquid – it’s just not ok having that available in the house. Especially if there are kids around. Do you want dead flying insects floating around on their kitchen counter, table, bar, or restaurant?

Fruit flies prevention tip (it’s easier to prevent!) : In fairness: you probably are aware not to let fruit get too ripe around the office if you’re trying to prevent fruit flies. However, fruit flies aren’t actually just attracted to fruit–they’re attracted to all sugars. Fruit just happens to be a sugar they can also lay eggs in. Imagine living in your favorite food! Before going home at the end of the day, scour the office for any uncovered food. This includes fruit, of course, but also bread, candy, meat, cheese, yogurt, and pretty much any other likely office snack. Either dispose of this stuff outside the office building or seal it in airtight plastic and put it in the fridge. If you want to keep fruit flies out, you can’t provide them with a buffet.

We are a husband and wife duo operating a small business in a small town just 30 minutes south of Boston in Pembroke, Massachusetts. We love hiking – in the above photo, we were at the Montezuma Castle. I love smoothies and Acai bowls, so there’s always a few organic bananas in my fruit bowl. No matter how clean I keep the house, a few fruit flies still find their way in my home buzzing around the bananas and other fruits. They are an annoyance! I tried using apple cidar vinegar and dish soap – and they work great, but the ACV has a very strong smell, and they just don’t look very nice in home…..And the kids have “accidentally” spilled them once or twice. Definitely not fun. Read additional details on Get rid of fruit flies in your bar.
