Krav Maga self-defense classes by Clay Lonis Krav Maga 2023: It’s twofold. First, understanding where you need to be in order to cause the most damage to an opponent. Second, understanding where you don’t want to be so that your opponent can’t cause damage to you. Developing this skill is essential to fight training. Level 2 self-defense techniques involve defending and counterattacking simultaneously when striking and a focus on bearhug defenses. It’s important that, in Level 2, students develop the capability to fight off a bearhug that would result in a slam to the ground or abduction scenario. When you are training in Krav Maga classes you learn to use no-holds-barred striking techniques like punches, kicks, knees, and elbows to cause damage to someone who is trying to cause damage to you. You also learn how to defend against attacks like striking techniques, chokes, bearhugs, headlocks, pins on the ground, hair pulls, and much more. In advanced Krav Maga levels you learn techniques like defending against attackers armed with guns, knives, and blunt objects. Physical training like this trains your body to fight. Part of that is the ability to recognize things like distance, timing, and angles. That’s incredibly important in developing situational awareness.
There are 5 Krav Maga levels and 6 Krav Mag belts that can be earned through training in those levels. Belt progression in terms of belt color goes from Yellow to Black. Progressing to the next level of training and belt color requires students to test. Each level of training has specific benchmarks that students must complete before becoming eligible to test. Krav Maga self-defense tests are a physical and mental challenge. This relates back to Imi’s original idea that Krav Maga must be easy to recall under stress. Krav Maga belt tests are a way that physical and mental stress can be applied. In this way, the testing process not only challenges the student but reinforces the skills that they have learned in their level of training.
Krav Maga self-defense training from Clay Lonis right now: Key takeaway for situational awareness: Apply this thinking to pretty much anything you are going to do. Anything, really. Going to work, running errands, going on a run, taking your kid to their game, going skydiving, going on vacation. What risks are inherent in the activity and what risks could arise from the environment you will be in. Who are you going with? Whether you are going someplace alone or with friends, be aware of that circumstance. Each presents its own unique set of challenges and a little preparation can give you the edge you need to stay safe. See more details on https://disqus.com/by/larryclaylonis/.
Israel had just formed as a nation at the end of the war. The overwhelming majority of people who were emigrating to Israel to restart their lives had absolutely no combat experience. It was Imi’s job to turn these people into Israel’s first military units. Imi was able to do this because of his childhood experience in boxing, grappling, and because of his experience as a Nazi resistance fighter during the war. Imi knew that people had to learn real, effective, techniques very quickly. He did away with ceremonial elements found in more traditional martial arts. Imi also did away with any consideration for “rules” or “fairness” when developing Krav Maga and training Israel’s new military.
The way we teach self-defense classes makes students understand the reality of self-defense in the real world. That understanding develops a very important skill called “situational awareness”. Our students understand what dangerous situations are, and how to avoid them. Think about that for a second. If consistently train to defend yourself against common attacks like chokes, headlocks, bearhugs, arm pulls, etc. you’ll come to understand the positions where those kinds of attacks take place.
Top Krav Maga classes with Clay Lonis Krav Maga: When are you going? Situational awareness starts with knowing when and where you are going to do something. The importance of timing should be easy to understand. You don’t want to be anywhere at anytime that might be dangerous. The timing of doing any activity has to be considered in both very broad and very detailed terms. Avoid going to places where bad things are happening on a broad scale. For example, don’t schedule a trip someplace during, say, hurricane season. Don’t plan on going to a country or location involved in some sort of political upheaval. Certain areas of the world are renowned for kidnappings, corruption, assaults on foreigners, etc. Do a little research into what is, or might be, going on in place that you are planning to go.
In a very real sense, the only person you can really rely on is you. It’s up to you to be constantly assessing and analyzing your environment and circumstances. Thinking about where you’re going, when you are going, what you are doing, and who you are doing it with will help you develop situational awareness. Utilizing that situational awareness means taking action to keep yourself as safe as possible based on that data you get from that assessment and analysis. Ultimately there’s no substitute for having the physical skills to defend yourself if your situational awareness fails…and it can. We all know that.
